Today’s note will focus on answering the question in last week’s note, namely why there has been a large turnaround in the financial markets.

The reason for the large turnaround in the markets is due to the election of Donald Trump as the President of the United States.  Mr. Trump is seen as a President who will be friendly to business interests.  This means that things like government regulations in certain industries may be lessened.  As a result stocks in heavily regulated industries such as the financial and energy industries have risen dramatically.  Since Mr. Trump was elected stocks involved in the rebuilding of the infrastructure in this country have also risen significantly.  This is because the President-elect has vowed to increase spending to improve America’s infrastructure.  The financial markets have been strong since the election and are selling at or near all-time highs.  I expect that this turnaround in the markets will continue through the remainder of the year.
